Who can access the space?
Anyone with a currently active AU ID can utilize the DaBL!
How do I become a member?
Becoming a member is easy. There are only three steps:
- Allow a Creative and Technical Specialist to put you in our database
- Complete and submit a Safety Waiver
- Take a short tour to learn what you can (and cannot) do!
When is the lab open?
What equipment is available to me?
Some tools and equipment require a certification to use, others require no such certification.

- PCB Milling Machine
- Sewing Machine
- Soldering Stations
- Vinyl Cutter
- Vinyl Heat Press
- Laser Cutter (coming soon!)

You can always come and ask for help from one of the specialists in the space. We can help you use the equipment.
What prior knowledge do I need to start a project?
How much do consumables cost?
For the time being, the DaBL is covering the cost of all consumables (3D printer filament, resistors, button-cell batteries, vinyl, etc.) This means as long as you have an active AU ID you can design and build at the DaBL for no cost! However, if you are working on a custom project requiring parts that aren't in the lab, you are responsible for those materials.

Can I submit a design and have someone 3D print it for me?
No, the Design and Build Lab is an educational space. Therefore, we find it more valuable to teach you the skills necessary and provide a helping hand rather than build products for you.
